Dutch structure agency MVRDV labored with the Tianjin City Planning and Design Institute (TUPDI) to design an enormous new library in Tianjin, China.
Constructed as a part of the town’s Binhai Cultural Heart and half of a bigger city plan to construct a cultural district, the library is 362,744 sq. ft in dimension.
Its rectilinear outer envelope is outlined by its topographic inside atrium, which is centered by a spherical, mirrored auditorium known as the “Eye of Binhai.”
"The Eye is the centre of the library," MVRDV co-founder Winy Maas mentioned. "It hollows out the constructing and creates, out of bookshelves, an surroundings to take a seat, to learn, to hang around, to climb and to entry, to create an natural social area. In its coronary heart is the auditorium which mirrors the surroundings, giving a 360-degree panorama of the area inside; a very reflective and pensive surroundings."
